Driving school for women in refugee camps in Western Sahara
Mid Sweden Aid is an organization that works to improve the living conditions of people in need. We focus especially on supporting and empowering women in vulnerable situations, who often suffer the most from poverty, conflict, and discrimination. We believe in women’s right to self-determination, education, and health. Therefore, one of our initiatives is to fund a driving school for women in refugee camps in Western Sahara. This is an area that has been in conflict since 1975 when Morocco invaded the former Spanish colony. Since then, thousands of refugees have lived in camps, without any solution to their situation in sight.
Learning to drive
In order to help these women, we collaborate with a local partner who runs this school and offers driving lessons and theory courses to interested women. By learning to drive, these women can gain more independence, transportation opportunities, and self-confidence. They can also contribute to their community’s development and welfare. Many of them have dreams of becoming teachers, nurses, or entrepreneurs.
Tough conditions
However, the women in the camps live under tough conditions and have limited freedom of movement. They have also lacked food, water, health care, and education for over 40 years. Despite these challenges, they have shown great organizational capacity and leadership in civil society. For instance, they have created various committees and associations to promote women’s participation, education, health, and culture. In addition, they have fought for their rights and their right to self-determination.
At Mid Sweden Aid, we are proud to be able to support these brave and committed women and hope that you want to join us in making a difference in their lives. By giving a donation to our organization, you can help us continue to run the driving school for women in refugee camps in Western Sahara. Your donation can be the difference between a life in isolation and a life in freedom. Thank you for your support!
